Warmer weather, another run-off surge expected

A photo of the West Fork of the Bitterroot today. At this time, it was 3600 CFS (cubic feet per second) yesterday it was under 3000 CFS.

The weather yesterday and today has been bright and sunny! The Bitterroot is already coming up and is getting a bit muddy. All this makes for tougher fishing. The 10-day forecast is for sunny and partly sunny days with temps in the higher 70's and low 80's. At least they are not calling for rain.
The Missouri River Basin and headwaters, Upper and Lower Clark Fork River Basins, and Bitterroot River Basin are all near 200% (some just over, some just below) snow pack as of the June 9 USDA report ftp://ftp.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov/data/snow/update/ws.txt. That is still a lot of snow and it will come off with our warm weather.

At this time, the Big Hole is still fishing. It is a higher valley and a bit cooler than the our other river basins.

Visit our blog to see photos as I get them and for my predictions for river status and how/when the rivers will fish. Safety is my main concern as these rivers rise and hazards/debri come into play. If you are fishing with me soon, I will be in touch. Feel free to call me for details at 800-254-5311.
