Going fishing today with Montana TU Director, MT TU board member, Conservation District Board member and a group of conservation minded outfitters. We will post photos this week of some rip-rap projects, comments and hopefully some fish, too.
After a cold spell, there was this very nice day in October. Richard and Jack fished the middle to lower Bitterroot and the fish were very cooperative. The water is very clear and flat. This means the fishing was technical because your fly presentation and drift must be convincing, no drag in the line.

Yesterday Jack came home all excited about the Bitterroot again. The water temperatures are dropping (between 50-52 degrees), the cool nights, fall days and waning moon seem to help – the fishing is really turning on in the afternoons.
He was fortunate to have two of his favorite people to fish with. Doc Bolton lives in California but has come to Montana for years and now has a small homestead near the Bitterroot River. Terry Nobles is long standing Bitterroot resident and Marine veteran, the best of the best in our opinion. Both gentlemen are avid trout fishermen and Trout Unlimited supporters. You will see us all at the Bitter Root TU Banquet this Friday, September 26.

Above is a photo of Doc with his fish of the day. We didn’t get a photo of Terry yesterday, but to the right is one from my files. He fishes all year but we seem to get most of the photos of him and his fish in the fall like this one.
Wapiti Waters has been fishing like crazy with not much time for photos. Jack finally got in last night early enough for me to snag some photos.
This slide show is 3 photos taken on the Bitterroot river of Rachel Weissman-Tsukamoto, daughter of Irv Weissman and Ann Tsukamoto. They were at their home in the valley with family and friends, many of which are from Stanford University School of Medicine where Irv is Director of the Institute of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine. Ann also works in stem cell research. Living in CA doesn’t deter them from fishing. Irv grew up in Great Falls, MT and they come to their Montana home frequently to relax, enjoy mountain life and fish. It has been fun to watch Rachel as she and her love of fishing grow.
