Bitterroot River with Keith’s family and friends

Bitterroot River with Keith’s family and friends

Laurie is holding the trout she caught on the upper Bitterroot. The Bitterroot has been bank full, but it dropped just enough for Keith and his family and friends to have a few good days of fishing and floating on the Bitterroot.

Laurie just happened to be in the boat with the camera. Thanks Laurie, we love the photos. See the slideshow below for a few more photos.

Jack took me, Merle, fishing the other day. When we have time, we try to get out and fish together. I don’t row the boat except in slower pike water — there are too many hazards and I am just not skilled enough yet. So, when Jack fishes, we pull over and wade fish. On this day, we had plenty of opportunities, plenty of hatches, plenty of fish and maybe a little too much “W” (wind). At the end of the day, we were really glad we braved the cold temperatures and fished the beautiful middle Bitterroot. After all, it is our “backyard.”

A saturday on the Bitterroot

A saturday on the Bitterroot

Jack worked last Saturday with two friends/outfitters/guides Josh Lauer and Scott Nicolarsen. They all met at a parking lot in Hamilton, then each went their own way to fish their choice stretch of the 80+ mile Bitterroot River. By looking at the group in the parking lot, it might have looked like a lot of boats fishing together, but that was not the case. They fished separate sections. Too many boats in close proximity are not doing the fish any favors or the public (especially the wade fishers). Jack and his friends work hard and practice good manners and ethics.

This Saturday was like most, the river was pretty crowded, but the fishing was good for Jack and his boat. See some photos below.

It was a pretty cold day on the Bitterroot but the fishing was good. Doc Bolton is a good friend that has property on the Bitterroot River. He lives here part-time and is fortunate to have some time here right now. He and his nephew fished with Jack the other day. I am just now getting to the photos. See them all in the slideshow below.

From San Diego to Montana, again

From San Diego to Montana, again

Dusty, Don, Jim, and Peter are from San Diego. They (and a few others of the group that didn’t make it this year) have been fishing with Wapiti Waters for many years. Spring is when they come, braving what ever weather the year brings for them. They are fun, great sports and always catch fish. Day one, on the Clark Fork, was nice weather. Day two and three were on the Bitterroot and it rained. We were thrilled to get the moisture and I think the catching was good.
