Free ranging red deer stag, shot during the ‘roar’ (like elk bugling), weight 250 kilos (approx. 550 lb.), single shot at 175 yards with .280 Remington, shot in Patagonia in Andes foothills.

Thanks for posting the red stag pic. Your readers might be interested to know I first fished with Jack on the Big Hole River near Wise River Montana in the early 1990′s. Since then we’ve fished the Bitterroot and Clark’s Fork and hunted antelope together.
Jack is an ‘old timer’ like me when it comes to hunting rifles — he goes for classics like the .257 Robertts and the .300 Holland & Holland, just another reason I enjoy him and what he stands for. He is an outstanding guide and he and Merle are good friends. He was the model for a character in my first novel, American Serengeti, the Montana guide with the bluegrass band who plays at Joe Wardrop’s funeral.
